Plenty of industries struggle to make Facebook and Instagram ads pay. Insurance is boring to look at. Software is invisible. Professional services all sound the same. Home improvement has none of these problems, and yet most businesses in the sector run ads as if they do.

Here is the advantage you are sitting on, and how to actually use it.

Your product is inherently visual, and Meta is a visual platform

A transformed kitchen. A driveway that makes the neighbours' look tired. A garden turned from wasteland into somewhere you would actually sit. This is exactly the content people stop scrolling for, and you produce it every working week as a by-product of doing your job.

Most industries have to manufacture thumb-stopping creative. You just have to photograph yours. The before and after is the single most powerful ad format in this sector: it tells a complete story in one image and lets the homeowner picture their own version of it.

You can reach exactly the right postcode

A national brand wastes most of its reach. You do not have to. Meta lets you put your work in front of homeowners specifically in the areas you serve, down to a radius around your base. Combined with the profile of who engages with home and garden content, your ads land with people who own the kind of homes you work on, in places you can actually get to.

You reach homeowners before they start comparing

This is the strategic difference from Google. Search captures people already collecting quotes, which means you arrive alongside three competitors. Meta reaches the homeowner who has been quietly thinking about the kitchen for months but has not acted yet. When your ad prompts the enquiry, you are often the only business in the conversation. That changes everything about how the job closes.

What separates the ads that work from the ones that get ignored

The generic version fails everywhere: a logo, a stock photo, "quality workmanship at competitive prices". Homeowners scroll straight past because it says nothing and shows nothing.

The version that works is specific. Real photos and scroll-stopping videos of real local jobs, ideally named to the area. Local social proof, a review from a customer two villages over beats any slogan. And a clear, low-friction next step, like requesting a free quote or design visit.

The honest caveat

This advantage only pays if the creative is done properly and refreshed consistently, and if the leads it generates are followed up fast. Meta leads arrive earlier in the buying journey, which makes speed and follow-up the difference between a bargain lead source and a wasted one.

That combination, sharp creative plus rapid follow-up, is precisely the system worth investing in.
