Every home improvement business asks the same question: where should the marketing budget actually go? In 2026, the honest answer has not changed much, but the detail has. Here is where we see leads being won right now.

Google Ads: capturing demand that already exists

Google Ads remains the highest-intent lead source available to a home improvement business.

When someone searches "driveway installer near me" or "replacement windows quote", they are not browsing. They have a problem, a rough budget, and a timeline.

That intent comes at a price. Cost per click in home improvement keywords is not cheap, and wasted spend punishes sloppy campaigns quickly. But run properly, with tight keyword targeting, strong landing pages, and rigorous negative keyword management, Google Ads produces some of the most sales-ready enquiries you will ever receive.

Meta Ads: creating demand before your competitors reach it

Meta is the other side of the coin. Nobody scrolls Facebook or Instagram looking for a new kitchen, but plenty of homeowners have been quietly thinking about one for months. Meta lets you put striking before and after work in front of exactly those people, in exactly your service area, before they ever type anything into Google.

The leads arrive slightly earlier in the buying journey, which means follow-up matters more. But cost per lead is typically lower than search, volume is more scalable, and the visual nature of home improvement work is a genuine advantage on the platform. For most of our clients, Meta is the growth engine and Google is the intent capture. The strongest businesses run both.

The smaller platforms worth a look

Once the two core channels are performing, larger businesses with bigger budgets can find additional demand in less crowded places.

Pinterest is where homeowners plan renovations months in advance, making it a strong fit for kitchens, bathrooms, and landscaping.

Nextdoor puts you inside genuine local conversations where recommendations carry weight.

Houzz attracts higher-end renovation projects with serious budgets.

And Reddit, increasingly surfaced in Google results, is where sceptical homeowners go for unfiltered advice.

None of these should be your first pound spent. All of them are worth testing once your core channels are consistently profitable and you want incremental volume your competitors are ignoring.

Where to start

If you are choosing one channel: Google Ads for immediate enquiries, Meta for scalable growth.

If you can fund both, run both, because they feed each other. And whatever you choose, remember the lead source is only half the equation. What happens in the minutes after the enquiry lands decides whether the spend pays off.
